Fitness Programs

My specialty is helping athletes improve explosiveness and speed.  This type of training can help performances at the Football Combines and of course during competitions in sports where explosiveness and speed are important.  Along with improving 40 yard times, my program helps develop "breakaway speed" or "that other gear" that football coaches speak of that allows for long touchdowns, running down ballcarriers, etc...

Training the core is also a specialty of mine, and I am able to customize a program for individuals from a wide variety of ability levels.  Often times because of lack of use, surgeries, or improper use; certain portions of the abdominal wall are no longer under the proper bodily control.  Muscle tone and some ability to function properly during basic tasks can be lost.  Properly training your core not only can awaken lazy abs and result in a firmer stomach, but can positively impact; your posture and alignment, the way you feel during daily tasks, and in your performance in sports.  Improper training of the core ultimately can lead to pain and injury.  Previously sedentary individuals can benefit from my programs, as well as elite athletes like one of my former clients, four-time national taekwondo champion Charles Smith Jr.

Another program is my "Strength and Power for Young Athletes".  This is aimed at athletes that are too young to be involved in the high school strength programs.  It features strength, power, and core exercises that address areas often overlooked within a typical youth sports regimen.

My other main program is "Strength and Stability for Female Athletes".  This program is primarily for females involved in sports that feature jumping & cutting, ie; Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer, Gymnastics, & Cheerleading; and is suitable for middle schoolers thru high school and beyond.

Studies have shown that female athletes in sports that feature jumping and cutting are far more vulnerable to knee injuries than their male counterparts.  It has been found that female basketball, volleyball, & soccer athletes are at least five times more likely to tear their anterior cruciate ligament (acl) than males in these same sports!  It is also important to note that these injuries are typically non-contact injuries, where the knee simply gave way during planting and cutting, stopping, or landing!

There are warning signs that can help identify whose at greater risk for such an injury.  I am available to attend a team's practice, observe the athletes, looking for these warning signs, and report my findings to the coach, athletic director, or other appropriate administrator.  If my services are desired, my science based program addresses the needs of the female athlete, looks to correct imbalances, motor skill problems and various other tendencies that may lead to future knee problems.  I can train individuals and small groups; and I'm also able to work with coaches and teams to show how many of the drills and exercises can be done during a team's daily warm up!

To familiarize yourself with this topic google "Female ACL Injuries", and also visit GirlsCanJump.com for vital information and materials that can help prevent these injuries!  This is the website of the Trainer for the WBNA's Detroit Shock basketball team.  I base my program on a lot of materials and info from this site.  I am also available, for a fee, to assist parents and coaches that want to select and implement these materials themselves.

I presently have access to facilities in the Waldorf and Fort Washington areas, but I can also travel to work with individuals, groups, and teams pretty much anywhere within the Washington DC metropolitan and Southern Maryland areas.  Call 301-638-5440 or email me at christiantrainer@aol.com for more info about any of my programs.
